Downtime alerts that reach the right person at the right time

With 50 sites, too many alerts are as bad as none: people start ignoring them. The rules decide which ones are worth a notification.

Noise trains people to ignore alerts.

A server with 40 sites goes down and 40 emails arrive. A planned update at night wakes someone up. A two minute blip opens an alert that closes before anyone reads it.

Then the alert that matters arrives, and nobody looks.

Four rules, combined.

  1. Delay

Alert only if the site is down for more than 0 to 60 minutes, for the whole agency or per site. Shorter outages stay in the history without notifications.

  2. Reminders

If a site stays down, a reminder every 15 minutes up to 24 hours, from 1 to 10 times. They stop when the site is back or the alert is muted.

  3. Maintenance windows

Once, daily, weekly or monthly, for all sites, a client, a group or one site. No uptime alerts and the minutes do not count against uptime.

  4. Dependencies

A site can depend on a parent monitor, like its server. If the parent is down, you get one alert with the number of monitors behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Does a safe update count as maintenance?

Yes. While a safe update runs on a site, at most 60 minutes, the site is treated as in maintenance.

Can I have a different delay per contact?

Not yet. The delay is per agency or per site.
