Decrypt backups offline, even if the platform isn't there
If you hold the backup key, you must be able to open the backups without us. The offline decryption tool reads them with your private key, which never reaches the platform.
A backup that opens only through one service depends on that service.
If the vendor shuts down, changes its terms or is unreachable on the very day you need a restore, the backups may become useless.
For sites with sensitive data, the client sometimes wants to be the only one who can open the backups. They need to do it with their own tools.
How to use it.
Download the backup list
From the dashboard, download a file with the list of parts and the links to fetch them. The links are valid for 7 days.
Run the tool
On the command line:
php mcm-decrypt.php BACKUP.json --key backup-key.pem. Or open the HTML page in the browser, which does the same with WebCrypto.Get the files
Database and files come out decrypted. With
--only databaseor--only fileschoose what to extract.

Does the private key pass through your servers?
